About
Chongren is a New York-based bilingual stage director from Shanghai, China. He is the Artistic Director of Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America and a Producing Associate at Pan Asian Repertory Theatre.
In Fall 2023, Chongren directed the World Premiere of Marcus Yi’s new musical, 'The Dragon King’s Daughter,'(Helen Hayes Award Nomination) at the Kennedy Center, making him the first Chinese director ever produced by America’s national theater.
Chongren served as the Deputy General Manager of China Performing Arts Agency North America, overseeing large-scale live performances from China to the United States from 2015-2020.
He was a Jonathan Alper Directing Fellow at Manhattan Theatre Club, a resident artist at Mabou Mines, a Signature Theatre Alumnus, and a Resident Director at the Flea Theater.
He has been a guest lecturer at Barnard College and Yale School of Drama.
Chongren is a member of Stage Director and Choreographer Society and the Off-Broadway League’s EDIJ Committee.
